Aging on Your Own terms: Is a Thread Lift Right for You?

A new survey of 2000 women discovered that many women in their early fifties suffer a self-esteem setback. Women may be insecure about the appearance of sagging skin in the same way as men may be insecure about premature baldness. Add grey hair and reading glasses to a sagging face, and some women begin noticing that they’re not noticed anymore. ‘Invisible’ is how women in the study described it.

Some women are at ease with age-related changes in their appearance, while others are simply not ready to age. You can self-define, age on your own terms, and decide for yourself what it means to age gracefully.

  • Does ‘aging gracefully’ mean allowing nature to make the decisions for you?
  • Is it equally elegant, and feisty, to choose to hang on to what you have?

If you went for the latter choice and your sagging skin is making you look older than you want to look, a thread lift treatment might be worth considering.

What exactly is a thread lift?

A thread lift (also known as a barbed suture lift) is a low-risk, minimally invasive, cosmetic procedure that can replace a facelift. Your skin is tightened by the doctor softly pulling it up with barbed medical-grade sutures threaded into your face. The difference is immediate and obvious, and it improves over time. The threads stimulate natural collagen and elastin production for a more youthful look. For six months after a thread lift, as the sutures dissolve your skin continues to tighten and look more youthful and fresh.

A thread lift procedure will tighten the skin around your neck, jowls, forehead, under-eye region, and brows.

A thread lift procedure will tighten the skin around your neck, jowls, forehead, under-eye region, and brows. You get to pick which parts of your face and neck are raised and tightened.  Typically, the price is determined by the number of threads used.

Because a thread lift is minimally invasive, anesthetic is not required. And, there is no down time. You can have a thread lift during your lunch break, and return to work afterward. This is why thread lifts are often referred to as ‘the lunchtime lift.’

How long does the effect last? A head-to-head comparison:

Non-surgical thread lifts have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years. Since the threads are pulled through your skin, collagen and elastin development occurs throughout, giving your face a tighter, more youthful, and refreshed appearance. If you arrive at a time when you are ready for a new lift, you can have a second procedure.

A surgical facelift carries significantly higher risk and expense. It must be done under general anesthesia.  There are some risks of blood clotting. Recovery is longer. But the effect will last for about 15-years.

The advantages of a thread lift:

  • there are no scars
  • improved facial contouring
  • improved skin tone and restored lost volume
  • reduced lines and wrinkles
  • ongoing rejuvenation of your skin cells as the sutures dissolve
  • bolstered self-confidence and self-esteem

While the new study only looked at women, age-related changes can cause depression in both men and women.  If you’re wondering if men can get thread lifts, the answer is, “Yes.” A thread lift could be just what you need if sagging skin is affecting your confidence and making you feel less attractive.

No one except you can choose what aging gracefully means. For some, it means leaving nature in control of the playbook. For others, it means ongoing maintenance, and tweaks, to give you the best appearance possible at any age.

Your life. Your body. Your choice.
